Narrative Excersises: How is time manipulated into film?
As an opening to a film how would you show that 100years have progressed using only one set? (an external long shot of a house in the country)
For this we could use anchoronic narrative, this is popular for showing the passage of time through the use of flashbacks/flash-forwards showing no clear dominance between any of the narrative threads.
Using 4 shorts how would you demonstrate a year has gone by using the same set as above (the house)? Describe your idea and then storyboard it.
In this short storyboard, the passage of time has been shown by the decay of this house.
Think of 3 other ways to inform the audience a year has passed by.
The change in scenery around the main setting can show the passage of time, also a collage of photographs and scenes from through the years can be flashed infront of the audience to show that time has passed. Another way of showing he passage of time is a subtitle displayed at the bottom reading something like '100 years later...'
How would you show that 24 hours have passed using the same subject (a man in a chair in his living room)
I think the use of flickering lights, and showing the scene in a fast forward motion, i.e showing the character in different positions.
How would you make it clear to your audience that the next part of the narrative is a dream?
You could use a filter or edit the scene to show it in a slightly different colour to symbolise his mind is elsewhere or you could blur the scene slightly to make it more dream-like.
How would you make it clear to your audience that the next part of a scene is a flashback?
For this
You would some sort of flashing effect or something that would show that we have moved to a different time zone.
Voiceover - objective - an outside person telling us the story.
Can you think of any examples?
Sometimes during the introduction to a film, we are greeted by a voiceover setting the scene and introducing us to the film. This often occurs in the opening scenes to the Twilight saga films.
Voiceover - subject - an insider telling us their version of events.
Can you think of any examples?
NO

Im Here
1. The short film, "Im Here" is a hybrid genre of Romantic Drama, Tragedy and Science Fiction. I think this because with the fact the main characters of this film are robots, this gives us the sense of the film including elements of a Sci-Fi film, also the fact that the main highlight of the film is the love story that is ongoing throughout forms the Romantic Drama element, which forms into a Tragedy as Sheldon ends up giving up his whole life for the one he loves, this gives the short a Tragedy element to the film, therefore giving the film a triple Hybrid Genre of Romantic Drama, Tragedy and Science Fiction.
2. The setting for "Im Here" is in an absolute and segregated world.
3. I think the setting of "Im Here" is in a segregated world, and as much as it may be a happy world for the humans living in that world, for the underdogs (Robots) it seems an unhappy world.
4. One of the examples of prejudice in this short film is shown right at the beginning of the short, as Sheldon is on the bus home, he peers out of the window to see a robot that's been involved in a collision, meanwhile humans are strolling around the accident showing no signs of concern towards the injured robot. Another sign of Prejudice in "Im Here" is as Sheldon is waiting at the bus stop for his ride, Francesca (a female robot) stops at the lights, and is harassed by a small old woman (human) who shouts ordering her to stop her car and aggressively informing Sheldon that he cannot drive a car.
5. Sheldon the main character is a shy, timid, and misunderstood character and seems overly unhappy in the world he is living in.
6. Francesca is a wild, curious and 'living on the edge' kind of character and introduces Sheldon to new things, showing him a different side to the world he lives in.
7. From this film we learn a lot about sacrifice and love, showing theres no limit to what you can give and do for the one you love.
8. I think the audience for "Im Here" is mainly a young and studious audience, due to the quirky and edgy feel to the setting and storyline. Also the music included in this film will appeal to the target audience
9. I Think the film is most likely to be viewed at short film festivals/the internet.
10. I think absolute sponsored this film because it has a strong link tot he target audience of the short film connecting with festivals and a strong drinking scene.

Blog task 3: What is Genre?
Genre is a simple phrase meaning the categorising ofentertainment. Film, Music, Poetry and Art are just some of the things that are usually split into genre, however in this case, i'm looking at the genre of film. The way in which films are categorised into genre is by the basic elements and 'characteristics' of the film. For example, the general characteristics of a comedy film are, a light hearted storyline, humorously exaggerated situations and generally a 'happy ending' whereas some of the main elements of an action film are, tense finger-biting story lines, one main hero/heroin, several forms of weapons, violence and car/transportation chases.
Some of the most famous film genres are Action, Adventure, Romance. Comedy and Sci-Fi, although sometimes those genres are combined to create a 'Hybrid' Genre, for example 'Action Adventure' and 'Romantic Comedy' this usually takes place when a single stamp cannot be put onto a film, a very good exaple of ma hybrid genre film is the 2011 release of 'Cowboys and Aliens' where we here saw a cowboy/contry western film collaborated with a sci-fi thriller.
